Professional Development Hours

For the year 2020/2021 I was able to complete 33 professional development hours. The workshops that I attend taught me skills that I could use in my career as an educational assistant and in my future career as a teacher. Some of the workshops were showing tools that I can use with students with various learning challenges or diverse needs. Others included resources to help support students who have experienced trauma or need social support. Each of these hours was spent engaged and participating actively so that I could better support each of the diverse students in the classrooms I worked.

KTTA Professional Development

On April 24, 2023 I will be attending the KTTA professional development day where I will be going to two workshops, one on ‘loose parts’ and the other on ‘the environment as the third teacher’. I am looking forward to these workshops as they will give me some fun and engaging tools that I will be able to use in my future teaching career.

BCTF New Teacher’s Conference

I am currently signed up to attend the BCTF new teachers conference in Nelson, BC this May (2023). The workshops that I have signed up for during this conference are ‘Taking Language Learning to the Outdoors’, ‘Playing in Nature In & Outside the Classroom with SEL/Making Connections Through Music Games and Literacy’ and ‘215 Le Estcwicwey Honouring The Children buried at Kamloops Indian Residential School’. I am excited for this conference as it gives me an opportunity to meet fellow TC’s and new teachers as well as the ability to learn some new ways to teach outdoors.

4 Seasons of Reconciliation

Since the month of February (until June of 2023) I have been attending monthly workshops as a part of my course work through 4 seasons of reconciliation these workshop will consist of ten hours of videos, slideshows, readings and quizzes. These workshops are with Indigenous authors, knowledge keepers and artists, who are sharing their experiences and knowledge with attendees. These teachings will explore the Indigenous history and how I can work towards reconciliation. I can take the knowledge that I gain from this course and apply it to my everyday, and in my future educational career.
