Certificates

In 2017 I received my Certificate for my Education Assistant and Community Support. This was an eight month course that gave the tools needed to successfully work with people that have diverse needs and abilities. With this certificate I was able to be hired on as a CEA in a K-12 school. For the six years that followed I have worked in kindergarten, grade one and grade two, and now grade ten. With the training I received I have successfully helped students work through challenges, hiked and adventured areas they typically would not get to experience, and have many moments where they simply say “ahhh… I get it now!”

In 2021 I completed a 7 hour workshop on Trauma-Focused Schools. This workshop gave different perspectives into the lives that students have been exposed to stress, truama and the continuing effects of generational trauma. Through this workshop I was given tool that I can use to support all students in my future classroom. Different or difficult behaviours can often be a challenge in classrooms, and through this workshop I was able to learn how to build student’s self esteem, develop feelings of safety and being heard. Approaching students in this way creates a greater opportunity of healthy growth and learning.

Awards

Silver Unit Guider Award

Silver Unit Guider Award

The Silver unit Guider award was given to me for my dedication to Girl Guides that went above and beyond the traditional roles of a guider. This award is presented for more than just a time commitment, it also recognizes the dedication to the unit outside of expected hours. I have volunteered my time creating crests, t-shirts for travel, photography, craft fairs and taking youth on weeklong campouts. To be recognized for my dedication and hard work was a humbling experience that I am grateful for.

Bronze Merit Award

Bronze Merit Award

The Bronze Merit Award was given to me in recognition of my abilities to advocate for youths mental health and to provide safe places for my girl guides. Providing these spaces allow the youth to feel heard and safe in an environment that is free from judgment and ridicule. This award means a lot to me as I truly was not expecting it. The acknowledgement of my dedication to my unit and their mental health means the world to me. A simple gesture that made a world of difference to receive.
