Hello, My name is Stephanie, I am a full time student in the Bachelor of Education program at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC; as well as, working part time as a certified education assistant. I have been involved in Girl Guides for the past nine years. I am a mom to two amazing children, Kait 13, and Ethan 11; and have been with my husband for almost 22 years. I love spending time in nature, whether it is walking with my dog Scout, camping with girl guides or capturing beautiful images on my camera.
As a teacher I will be inclusive of my students by creating a safe environment while nurturing each child’s potential. I will do this through celebrating students’ individuality, respecting and honouring diverse cultures, honour their voices and provide a rich learning environment. I will encourage and accept my students regardless of their gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status or family history. My classroom will encourage participation through building a diverse learning environment where students will engage in lessons that are built to accommodate their strengths with components that motivate participation and confidence. With opportunities for outdoor education and hands-on learning, students will be inspired to deepen their understanding and develop into positive contributing members of the community. Units will be planned in ways that reassure students that their learning styles will be supported and reflected in their learning opportunities. Students will be able to showcase their individuality through assignments that reflect their strengths. They will be assessed individually through various means like projects, written work, drawing/art and quizzes. Students will also be given opportunities to actively participate in their assessments by choosing how they are assessed in appropriate circumstances.
Stephanie Beresh, Inclusivity statement
I have been a Certified Educational Assistant (CEA) for the last 6 years. I have been blessed to have worked with some amazing students that have not only challenged the way I see the world but have changed my world entirely. I have helped them build the confidence to overcome struggles and challenges that once se them back. I have always known I would have a career with children one day, and having my own classroom has been my ultimate dream. Volunteering with Girl Guides, and working as a CEA have given me the experience and the tools needed to become a successful teacher.
My time volunteering in Girl Guides started in 2014. As a guider I have been fortunate to experience many firsts with the youth. I have gotten to take girls on their first overnight trip, their first camping trip, their first time seeing the ocean and their first time across Canada to Nova Scotia. In 2022, my Co-Guider and I became Co-Commisioners for the Monarch District, in BC. It has been nothing short of amazing watching these girls become comfortable with themselves and confident in their abilities. To know that I helped them find that, is something that is both inspiring and amazing.
I am currently in year one of two in the Bachelor of Education program at Thompson Rivers University. My goal upon completion of the program in 2024, will be to pursue a teaching career in the province of British Columbia, with an aim for school district 73. As a teacher I will inspire and show my students the wonders of outdoor learning, the excitement of the seasons and the adventures hidden in the pages of story books. My goal is to one day have a classroom that I can bring outside for place based education. Where students will build a deeper sense of learning and appreciation for their community. Spending time outside will engage students in a holistic way that will be personal for each student creating a safe and fun learning environment. As I progress through the Bachelor of Education program, I am also educating myself in anti-racism education and Indigenous learning. The education that I receive from these courses are going to help me build a safe and welcoming classroom for all of my students. It will allow me to provide each student with a learning environment that encourages growth and understanding. A classroom that respects each other and the land on which we live.
